Hardik Pandya creates history by becoming the first Indian to be ranked No. 1 T20I allrounder in the latest ICC rankings in 2024. He jumped two spots to share the top position with captain of Shri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, after his impressive performance in India’s T20 World Cup. India went unbeaten to win the trophy, credit goes as well to Pandya’s contributions as all-rounder.
Pandya scored 144 runs with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 151 and took 11 wickets at an average of 17.36 in the West Indies and USA. His standout moment was in the final against South Africa, where his 3 for 20 helped India clinch the victory by seven runs. His best batting performance in the tournament came against Bangladesh, where he scored 50* off 27 balls.
Jasprit Bumrah, who achieved the title of the Player of the Series in the T20 World Cup, also saw a significant rise in the rankings. He jumped 12 places to No. 12 among bowlers after taking 15 wickets at an average of 8.26, with an economy rate of just 4.17. Bumrah’s crucial spell in the final overs against South Africa turned the game in India’s favor, even as they needed only 30 runs from the last five overs.
Other Indian players also moved up in the rankings. Kuldeep Yadav, with ten wickets at 13.90, moved up three positions to be joint-eighth among bowlers. Arshdeep Singh, the joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition with 17 wickets, climbed four places to a career-best No. 13.
Anrich Nortje one of the best players of South Africa also had a notable rise, moving up seven places to a career-high No. 2 among bowlers after taking 15 wickets at an average of 13.40 and an economy of 5.74 in the World Cup.
Among allrounders, Marcus Stoinis, Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan, and Liam Livingstone each moved up one spot to be ranked No. 3, 4, 5, and 8, respectively.
